Did I reach my January 2021 writing goals?

It is the 1st February today, which means time to check in and see if I have met my January writing goals. You can read more here, but in a nutshell my goal was to write 30,000 words of my novel’s first draft.

So, what is my current word count? Drum roll please… 22,454.

I didn’t hit my goal. But you know what? That’s completely fine. I will explain more in a separate post and keep this one short and sweet for now, but I’m not disappointed with not meeting my goal, nor am I disheartened. Instead, I learned more from this month than I would have if I had it had ended up being a straightforward, 1,000 words per day race to the finish.

At the risk of sounding like a giant walking cliché, setbacks in life allow us to learn and grow and develop, and the challenges I have face this month have allowed me to do just that.

I’m even more excited to see what February brings, and you, as my readers, will be the first to know.

Look out for a longer post coming soon about the challenges I faced in January, but for now, I will leave you with this image of my overall progress, which I will explain more next time.

  1. You might have missed you 30,000 word goal but 22,000 words is an amazing and laudable amount to have reached. Well done. I look forward to your next posting.
